Geothermal Service

A properly installed closed loop geothermal heating and cooling system requires very little maintenance.

A water-to-air geothermal heat pump needs two items: the proper amount of air and the proper amount of water.

Cleaning or replacing air filters regularly is essential. Most home owners opt to change the filters themselves.

Often overlooked air issues include ducts that are either shut or covered. Homeowners should take precautions not to cover or shut air supplies or returns as this will affect the operation of the geothermal heat pump.

The water side of the system (what's in the yard) can be designed with either a pressurized or non-pressurized pumping system. Non-pressurized systems require no regular maintenance, but the pressures on pressurized systems should be checked periodically to ensure enough pressure is in the system. Systems without adequate pressure can cause pump failures and premature compressor failures.

Geothermal systems using an open well should consider having the system flushed periodically.

Perhaps the most important consideration in choosing a service provider is ensuring the person or team that services the system is capable and trained to measure performance and service both the refrigerant and water sides of the geothermal system. A person/team having only one set of skills cannot effectively troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain or service a geothermal system.
